Who This Is For
Are you here for someone you love, or for yourself?
Both work. Most coaching engagements at Epic Journey come from one of these two paths.
The conversation is the same: 15 minutes, no pressure, honest answer on whether coaching is the fit.
Path 1 · For Families
You're the parent, spouse, or sibling.
Many of our clients are paid for by their family. A mom funding a coach for her son. A dad backing a daughter through her first year of recovery. A spouse investing in the partner they love.
Your loved one gets a real mentor, not a passive listener.
You get someone who tells you the truth about what's happening.
The family stops carrying the whole weight alone.
Pricing transparently discussed before you commit.
Athletes have coaches. Founders have mentors. People doing serious work in their life have someone in their corner. If you're navigating recovery, or just want to live with more intention, that's exactly what this is.
Strategic 1-on-1 work, not generic talk therapy.
Accountability + structure + life-direction work.
Real-time access between sessions when it matters.
Moms. Clients. Treatment center owners. All saying the same thing.

Epic Journey and specifically Preston have been a God send over the last few years while we have been trying to help my son with his addiction and mental health challenges. Even though we don't have a lot, I feel every penny spent was invaluable in helping us as a family deal and helped inform us of what we should and shouldn't be doing, providing guidance of different options for treatment and modeling such an amazing role model for my son.

Epic Journey is exactly what it is! Epic!!! People in recovery want to feel "life" again! Preston is an excellent example of that! Most importantly, Preston cares! He is an incredible mentor! Thankful to Preston for the work he does.
I lost my dad to suicide. My brother to a fentanyl overdose. I built Epic Journey from the other side of it.
I'm not a clinician with a textbook view of recovery. I lived this.
Six years addicted to heroin myself. Lost my father to suicide. Lost my brother to a fentanyl overdose.
The last 11 years I've spent building the kind of recovery system I wish my family had had,
founded Fresh Start of California (detox), founded SoCal Mental Health,
owned and operated residential, stabilization & outpatient programs, consulted for the top centers
in Southern California, performed 500+ interventions, and authored The Epic Journal (used in
treatment programs nationwide).
When you do coaching with me, you work directly with me.

A daily-practice journal Preston wrote, now in detox, residential, intensive outpatient,
recovery coaching practices, and on the desks of individuals doing the daily work. Real frameworks.

"I can't say enough good things about Epic Journey Wellness, they are truly changing lives in the most powerful way. This incredible team takes people in early recovery and gives them something most programs never do: show you that you can actually have a fun life sober! Real, exciting, soul-filling experiences in the outdoors. Skydiving, motocross, surfing, epic camping trips in Joshua Tree, and so much more. They've created a program that doesn't just help people stay sober, it helps them fall in love with life again. Highly, highly recommended!"

Is recovery coaching virtual or in-person?
Mostly virtual. The majority of our coaching clients work with Preston entirely by secure video and phone. It's the easiest way to keep consistent, you always have someone in your corner regardless of where you are or what your schedule looks like.
For clients local to Orange County (Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Coast, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach), in-person sessions are an option. Many local clients combine both, virtual for the everyday, in-person for the high-stakes moments.
How does pricing work, hourly or monthly retainer?
Both, but most of our deeper work is on monthly retainer. Hourly fits clients with occasional, specific needs. Monthly retainer is where the real work happens, multiple touchpoints per week, real-time access between sessions, full case management.
Most clients stay on monthly retainer for 6 to 12 months. Recovery research backs this up: 12+ months of continuing care correlates with roughly 3× better long-term outcomes vs. shorter engagements.
Exact pricing is discussed transparently on the free 15-minute consultation, we don't post rates publicly because every engagement is built around what each person actually needs.
Do you take insurance, Medi-Cal, or Medicare?
No, recovery coaching is cash-pay only.
We don't bill insurance for coaching. We don't take Medi-Cal. We don't take Medicare. We don't take Tricare or state-funded plans. This isn't a billing decision, it's how we keep the engagement private, fast, and built around your life instead of an insurance company's authorization cycle.
Payment options: hourly, monthly retainer, or family-funded for a loved one. Cards, ACH, and check accepted.
Can I pay for coaching for my son, daughter, spouse, or sibling?
Yes, this is a common path. Many of our clients are paid for by family. Moms funding coaches for their sons. Parents backing their adult children through the first year of recovery. Spouses investing in the partner they love. Siblings making it possible for someone they grew up with.
If you're paying for someone else, you'll have a direct line to Preston too, appropriate updates, family meetings when needed, and honest answers about what's actually happening. We work alongside the family, not around them.
How quickly can we start?
Most engagements start within 24 to 72 hours of the free consultation. Mention urgency on the call, we prioritize. For active crises, please call 911 or 988 first. Epic Journey is not an emergency service.
What's the difference between a recovery coach and a therapist?
Different roles, they complement each other. Therapy is clinical work (trauma, diagnoses). Coaching is strategic and practical (accountability, life-direction, real-world action). The same way a top athlete works with a coach or a founder works with a mentor. Many of our clients have a therapist AND a coach.
