Recovery for Parents Who Can't Leave Their Kids
WHO WE WORK WITH: PARENTS

Recovery for parents who cannot disappear from home

You are the one who needs help, and you still have kids to raise. That is not a reason to wait.

Parents, Epic Journey Recovery

Can I get help for my drinking or using without leaving my kids?

Yes. Epic Journey Recovery is not a facility and has no beds, so nothing about this requires you to leave home.

You stay in the house. School drop off, work, dinner, bedtime, all of it keeps happening. The work is virtual first and available nationwide, with in person sessions across Orange County when that helps. Maybe residential is already off the table because there is no one to hand the children to, and because the absence itself would say something out loud you are not ready to say. Founder Preston Durnford has been sober over a decade and has personally led more than 500 interventions. If a higher level of care is ever needed, he coordinates it. He has operated treatment centers for over 11 years.

Will asking for help make me look like an unfit parent?

Calling a private coaching practice is not a report to anyone. Epic Journey is cash pay by design, so there is no insurance claim and no billing moving through a benefits system.

That structure exists for privacy and discretion. None of this is legal advice, and no one can tell you what a court or a co parent will decide. What we can tell you is how the practice is built and what it does not do. You already know what this is costing at home, and waiting has not fixed it yet. Doing the work while you are still in the house means it happens in front of your kids instead of somewhere they cannot see.

What does the help actually look like for a working parent?

You work with Preston directly multiple times a week, and with a licensed therapist multiple times a week plus hourly sessions as needed. Behind that is a team of 12, including coaches, holistic practitioners, functional medicine, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, and licensed therapists.

Length of engagement is individualized. It is built around your life, not a program calendar. The practice is based in Newport Beach, California, virtual first and nationwide, with in person work across Orange County plus meetups and retreat experiences. Start with a confidential consultation.

Questions people ask

Do you take insurance?

No. Epic Journey Recovery is cash pay and does not bill insurance or work in network. The practice is built around privacy and discretion instead of insurance billing, and it is a coaching practice, not a licensed treatment provider.

What happens if I need detox or a higher level of care?

Preston coordinates it. He built and ran clinical operations for a subacute detox center, a primary mental health program, and a dual diagnosis outpatient program in Southern California, and he has operated treatment centers for over 11 years. You are not left to find that on your own.

Can my partner and kids get support too?

Yes. There is a separate clinical team for the family, apart from the team working with you, and Preston works with the family directly. The family work runs alongside yours rather than after it.

How long do people actually work with Epic Journey?

With kids at home, the cadence has to fit the week you already have. The core engagement is 90 days, and that is when the intensive work happens with the full team. Most people stay up to about six months, and after that many taper to roughly one session a week, ongoing, usually with whichever team member they connected with most.

It is not a rigid program you graduate from. The 90 days are front loaded on purpose, because that is where the assessments, the clinical work, and the family work carry the most weight.

Most of it is virtual, because it is convenient and that is how most clients work. Some clients fly out for the retreat, or the team flies to them, which is the higher package tier. In person is also available across Orange County. Most clients pay hourly or through set packages, and Epic Journey is cash pay, not a facility. Who is actually on the team?

About 12 people. It is Preston plus coaches, holistic practitioners, functional medicine, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, and licensed therapists, and collectively they have decades of experience. Preston will tell you most of his team has as much or more operating experience than he does.

Preston Durnford founded Epic Journey in 2014. He has been sober over a decade, spent 11 plus years owning and operating treatment centers, personally led more than 500 interventions, and wrote The Epic Journal, which has sold more than 30,000 copies. He built and ran a subacute detox center, a primary mental health program, and a dual diagnosis outpatient program in Southern California, then sold them.
