Who We Work With

Recovery for Single Parents Who Have No One to Hand the Kids To

No facility. No beds. Nothing to leave. You are the client here, and the work fits around the school run, the job, and bedtime.

Single Parents, Epic Journey Recovery

How do I get help for myself when there is no one to take my kids?

You do it from home. Epic Journey Recovery is not a facility and has no beds, so there is no residential stay to arrange and no thirty days to cover for the kids. They stay where they are. You keep the school run, the job, dinner, bedtime, all of it.

Sessions are mainly virtual, because that is convenient and it is how most clients work. In person sessions are available across Orange County when that helps.

If residential has been off the table because there is no one to hand the children to, that is the wall. This practice is built on the other side of it.

How private is this?

Epic Journey is cash pay by design, so there is no insurance claim and no billing moving through a benefits system. The practice is built around privacy and discretion for that reason.

What this is: a concierge recovery coaching practice based in Newport Beach, California. It is not a facility, it has no beds, it does not bill insurance, and it is not a licensed treatment provider.

Epic Journey does not give legal or custody advice, and no one here can tell you how a court, an attorney, or a co-parent will see anything. Legal questions belong with a lawyer.

How long does this last, and what does it look like over time?

It starts with a 90 day core engagement, the intensive upfront work with the full team. Most people stay up to about six months. After that many taper to roughly one session a week, ongoing, and they usually stay with whichever team member they connected with most.

It is not a rigid program with a graduation date. The first 90 days are heavier because the medical workup, the therapy, and the coaching are all running at once. Then it gets lighter and it stays available. Most clients pay hourly or through set packages.

You are not signing up to vanish from your children's lives for a season. You are adding standing appointments to a week you are already running.

What do I actually get, and how does scheduling work?

You work with Preston directly multiple times a week, and with a licensed therapist multiple times a week plus hourly sessions as needed. Sessions are scheduled with you, around school hours and work.

Behind that is a team of about 12, including coaches, holistic practitioners, functional medicine, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, and licensed therapists.

Some clients fly out to Epic Journey for the retreat, or the team flies to them, which is the higher package tier. Start with a confidential consultation.

Questions people ask

Do you take insurance?

No. Epic Journey Recovery is cash pay and does not bill insurance or work in network. The practice is built around privacy and discretion instead of insurance billing, and it is a coaching practice, not a licensed treatment provider.

What happens if I need a higher level of care?

Preston coordinates it and stays in the picture. Epic Journey also works alongside people who are already in treatment and continues after they leave, and some clients never need treatment at all. Preston Durnford has been sober over a decade, has 11 plus years owning and operating treatment centers, and has personally led more than 500 interventions.

Can my kids get support too?

Yes. There is a separate clinical team for the family, apart from the team working with you, and Preston works with the family directly. That work runs alongside yours rather than after it.

Who is actually on the team?

About 12 people. It is Preston plus coaches, holistic practitioners, functional medicine, a neurologist, a psychiatrist, and licensed therapists, and collectively they have decades of experience. Preston will tell you most of his team has as much or more operating experience than he does.

Preston Durnford founded Epic Journey in 2014. He has been sober over a decade, spent 11 plus years owning and operating treatment centers, personally led more than 500 interventions, and wrote The Epic Journal, which has sold more than 30,000 copies. He built and ran a subacute detox center, a primary mental health program, and a dual diagnosis outpatient program in Southern California, then sold them.
