Most people in this industry studied recovery from a textbook. I lived it — every side of it. Six years addicted to heroin. The loss of my father to suicide. The loss of my brother to a fentanyl overdose. The slow, brutal climb back. And then over a decade of building the kinds of treatment programs I wish my family had been able to put me in.
I founded Fresh Start of California (acute detox) and sold it. I founded SoCal Mental Health. I've owned and operated residential, stabilization, and outpatient programs across Southern California. I've consulted for many of the leading treatment centers in the region. And in 2014, I founded Epic Journey to do what the industry rarely does — tell families the truth, and walk with them all the way through. Before treatment, during, and long after.
Along the way I authored The Epic Journal — a daily practice journal for recovery, growth, and resilience. It's now in over 20,000 hands and used in treatment programs and behavioral health practices across the country.
